The Games took off with a bang with a fantastic fireworks🎆 display at the opening ceremony on 9th February 2018 with temperatures at below 22 C, making it difficult for some athletes to attend the ceremony

For the first time a national sports team representing North Korea is taking part in one of the biggest sporting events of the planet, held this time, in South Korea! This itself is an auspicious enough occasion to celebrate, apart from all of the wonderful glory and joy, the Games bring to the 93 participating teams and countries.

Malaysia is competing at the Winter Olympics for the first time with the team consisting of two athletes, two officials and a chef de mission.

Malaysia has qualified a single male Alpine Skier🎿 . Jeffrey Webb became the first Malaysian to qualify for the Winter Olympics. Webb’s father being American and mother, Malaysian, making him eligible to compete for Malaysia.

Figure skater⛸️, Julian Yee, became the second Malaysian to qualify for the Winter Olympic Games by finishing among the top six skaters, who had previously, yet to secure qualification at the 2017 Nebelhorn Trophy🏆.

Figure skater, Julian Yee Zhi-Joe, born in 1997, trains in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia and in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. He is a five time Malaysian senior national champion, (2013-2017). Julian has competed at seven in ISU Championships, including two World Championships. He started skating in 2001!
