Democrat President Joe Bidenโ€™s administration has been hit with a federal lawsuit for unlawfully blocking the use of the antiviral drug ivermectin as a Covid treatment.

A group of doctors is suing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), accusing the federal agencies of โ€œlying to the publicโ€ about ivermectin.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Southern District of Texas in Galveston, The Texan reported.

The plaintiffs, Drs. Mary Talley Bowden, Paul E. Marik, and Robert L. Apter, argue that the FDA has overstepped its authority by unjustifiably interfering with their medical practice.

The doctors are contesting the FDAโ€™s portrayal of ivermectin as โ€œdangerousโ€ for human consumption.

They note that the FDA has approved ivermectin for human use since 1996 for a variety of diseases.

However, they allege that with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the FDA began releasing documents and social media posts discouraging the use of the anti-viral drug for COVID-19 treatment.

โ€œWeโ€™re suing the FDA for lying to the public about ivermectin,โ€ said Dr. Bowden.

Claims were made that the initial article misrepresented the law by stating the FDAโ€™s official stance against ivermectin use without mentioning that doctors were allowed to administer the medicine.

U.S. law is cited in the complaint, including the provision that the FDA โ€œmay not interfere with the authority of a health care provider to prescribe or administer any legally marked device to a patient for any condition or disease within a legitimate health care practitioner-patient relationship.โ€

During a hearing last year, the agencyโ€™s lawyers argued that the FDA was only giving advice and it was not mandatory when it told people to โ€œstopโ€ taking Ivermectin for COVID-19.

โ€œThe cited statements were not directives,โ€ said Isaac Belfer, one of the lawyers.

โ€œThey were not mandatory.

โ€œThey were recommendations.

โ€œThey said what parties should do,โ€ he continued.

โ€œThey said, for example, why you should not take ivermectin to treat COVID-19.

โ€œThey did not say you may not do it, you must not do it.

โ€œThey did not say itโ€™s prohibited or itโ€™s unlawful.

โ€œThey also did not say that doctors may not prescribe ivermectin.โ€

โ€œThey use informal language, that is trueโ€ฆ

โ€œItโ€™s conversational but not mandatory.โ€

However, the statement from the lawyer contradicted to FDAโ€™s social media post.

The FDA shared an article about why the public โ€œshould not use ivermectinโ€ because it โ€œcan be dangerous and even lethalโ€ with a caption that read:

โ€œHold your horses, yโ€™all.

โ€œIvermectin may be trending, but it still isnโ€™t authorized or approved to treat COVID-19.โ€

In 2021, Houston Methodist health officials began investigating Dr. Mary Talley Bowden.

Bowden was then suspended for spreading โ€œdangerous misinformationโ€ about Covid and promoting the efficacy of ivermectin.

The move prompted the physician to resign from the hospital, according to the Gateway Pundit.

The hospital excoriated Bowden for โ€œusing her social media accounts to express her personal opinions about the COVID-19 vaccine and treatments,โ€ NBC News reports.

The suspension barred the physician from admitting or treating patients at the hospital.

Bowden repeatedly warned that it is โ€œwrongโ€ to mandate the experimental mRNA vaccines and continuously touted Ivermectin as a safe and effective treatment amid threats from public health officials against prescribing the drug.

In her resignation letter, Bowden doubled down on the efficacy of ivermectin.

The Nobel prize-winning, anti-parasitic drug, which has been deployed against some of the worldโ€™s most devastating tropical diseases, is far safer than the potentially lethal, experimental Covid vaccines, the Texas doctor argued.

โ€œI have worked hard to provide early treatment for victims of COVID-19,โ€ she wrote.

โ€œMy efforts have been successful.

โ€œI have treated more than 200 COVID-19 patients, including many with co-morbidities, and none of these patients have required hospitalization.

โ€œThis is a testament to the success of my treatment methods,โ€ she noted.

โ€œThroughout this pandemic, there has been no FDA-approved treatment for COVID.

โ€œTherefore I have done my best to care for patients and save lives in the absence of a clear scientific consensus.โ€

โ€œEarly treatment must still be part of any strategy for patient care,โ€ she explained.

โ€œThat is why physicians and hospitals should pay more attention to medications such as Ivermectin, which significant research and my clinical experience indicate is effective.

โ€œI have decided to part ways with Houston Methodist because of the accusation that I have been spreading โ€˜dangerous information.โ€™

โ€œThis is false and defamatory,โ€ she continued.

โ€œI do not spread misinformation, and my opinions are supported by science.

โ€œThere is substantial evidence for the efficacy of ivermectin in treating COVID-19, and no evidence for serious or fatal side effects associated with the doses used to treat COVID-19.โ€
