Vietnamese Bitek

This is a Vietnamese accompaniment to be eaten with a bowl 🍲 of rice 🌾🍚 using your chopsticks πŸ₯’.


1 large head of  Coral lettuce 

2 tomato

1 large big onion

200 gm beef

1 tbsp oyster sauce

2 tbsp white sugar (for marinating the beef)

3 tbsp white sugar (for marinating the onion) 

2 cloves garlic finely chopped

Juice of 1 lime

2 tbsp coconut oil 

Sea salt


To make Bitek

1.Cut beef πŸ₯© into thin slices. Marinade in oyster sauce, 2 tsp sugar, half of the chopped garlic πŸ§„, salt πŸ§‚and pepper for 10 minutes.

2.Slice the onion πŸ§… thinly, put it in to a bowl, add lime juice, 2 tbsp sugar, mix and set aside.

3.Heat the oil in a frying pan. Add the other half of the chopped garlic to the frying pan and fry. Add the beef and fry until a bit rare for 5 minutes.

4.Remove from fire and set aside.

To Arrange the Plate

1.Wash Coral lettuce πŸ₯¬ leaves and tomatoes πŸ….

2.Arrange lettuce and tomato slices around on a plate. Place the beef in the centre and top with the onion slices dipped in lime.

Serves 2 persons.

To make the rice

Boil white rice in the rice cooker. Spoon πŸ₯„ up and fry the rice in the juices left in the frying pan. Serve into a bowl and turn it over on a plate. Use your chopsticks to eat with.

Serve with Vietnamese coffee.
